How Pintech Manufactures Surgical Instruments

From steel selection to final inspection, every surgical instrument in Pintech's 1,359+ item catalogue passes through the same forging, finishing, and quality control process at our Bhopalwala, Sialkot factory. Here is what actually happens between raw steel and a finished, sterilizable instrument.

Steel Selection: Why Grade Choice Is Not Just a Spec Sheet Line

Pintech forges blades, jaws, and cutting edges from AISI 420 or 440C stainless steel, and uses AISI 304 for retractors and components where flexibility is more useful than edge retention. 440C holds a sharper edge longer, which matters for scissors and scalpel handles, but is more brittle. 420 balances edge retention with toughness for instruments that see more torque and repeated flexing, such as needle holders and forceps. Mill test certificates for the specific steel batch used in an order are available on request, not just a general grade claim on a spec sheet.

Box Lock vs Screw Joint: A Detail Worth Asking About

Forceps and needle holders are built around one of two joint types. Box lock construction interlocks the two halves through a machined slot, giving a stable pivot with minimal lateral play, and holding that stability across years of sterilization cycles. Screw joint construction is quicker and cheaper to produce, but tends to loosen faster under repeated autoclave use, which shows up as wobble in the jaws over time. Pintech uses box lock construction on its standard haemostatic forceps and needle holder ranges for this reason. It costs more to machine but the instrument holds its tolerance far longer in clinical use.

In-House Quality Control Before Dispatch

  • Dimensional inspection against the approved reference sample for every batch
  • Joint and hinge action checks on forceps, needle holders, and hinged instruments
  • Surface finish inspection for pitting, discoloration, or incomplete polishing
  • Function testing on cutting and gripping instruments before packing

OEM and Private Label: How the Process Actually Runs

The process starts with either your own drawing or an existing catalogue piece you want rebranded. A sample comes back within 5 to 7 working days, and that sample is where the real decisions get made: jaw serration depth, handle texture, logo placement, whatever the specification calls for. Bulk production only starts once you sign off on that sample, which is deliberate. Catching a tolerance issue on one sample piece costs nothing. Catching it after a 500-unit run has been forged costs real money and real time. Minimum order is 25 pieces per item. See the OEM page for details →

Packaging and Documentation Before Dispatch

How an order gets packed depends entirely on who is unpacking it at the other end. A hospital procurement department receiving a bulk order typically wants sterilization pouches ready to go straight into an autoclave cycle. A distributor building retail-ready stock wants individual blister packaging with their own branding. A wholesale buyer moving volume through their own facility is usually fine with standard bulk poly bags. This gets locked in at the same time as the sample approval, because changing packaging after production starts means reworking a batch that is otherwise finished. Paperwork ships alongside the crate rather than following separately, so CE and FDA compatible documentation is ready the moment customs asks for it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Pintech source steel for surgical instruments?
AISI 420 and 440C stainless steel for blades, jaws, and cutting edges, AISI 304 for retractors and components where flexibility matters more than edge retention. Mill test certificates are available on request.
What is the difference between box lock and screw joint construction?
Box lock construction interlocks the two halves through a machined slot for a stable pivot with minimal lateral play. Screw joint construction is cheaper but tends to loosen faster under repeated sterilization.
How does the OEM and private label process work?
Submit a specification or catalogue instrument to rebrand, receive a sample within 5 to 7 working days, approve it, then bulk production begins. MOQ starts from 25 pieces per item.
What quality checks happen before a surgical instrument ships?
Dimensional inspection against the approved sample, joint and hinge checks, surface finish inspection, and function testing before packing. CE and FDA compatible documentation is prepared where required.
